Probably everyone knows the sad fate of diabetics – the strictest diet, the deviation from the norms of which can be fatal, dependence on medication, sometimes impaired ability to work. It is as if a person lives in a safe mode, and many joys of life are simply unattainable. Of course, it would be extremely unreasonable to call alcohol such a “joy”, but it does add a certain taste to life, diluting the dullness of everyday life. And it is useful in small proportions. But diabetics should treat alcohol with special caution.

Yes, it is allowed to drink it, but we should not forget about the following fact: alcoholic beverages should be considered, first of all, from the side of their sugar content and, actually, the alcohol content. For example, grape wines will be classified as follows:

In the first, honorable place we have table wines: white, pink, red. Only dry and semi-sweet varieties can be consumed: in the first ones the sugar has already fermented enough, and in the second ones its content does not exceed 8%. The alcohol content of the latter, by the way, is 9-17%. Let’s name the winners: they are Gurjaani, Cinandali, Cabernet, etc.
Next on the list are the strong wines. These are, for example, madera, port and sherry. Sugar content is 13%, whereas the alcohol content is 17-20%.
The three are concluded by dessert wines, in which sugar makes 20% of volume (for liqueurs – up to 30%), and alcohol – 15-17%. These are Muscat, Cahors, etc. Remember, please.
On the fourth place of our impromptu rating are sparkling wines, including all the familiar champagne. There is almost no sugar in dry varieties, while the rest have more than 5%.
In fifth place are aromatized wines. Here the ratio is as follows: sugar – up to 16%, alcohol – up to 18%. Among the flavored wines is vermouth.
You should only drink table wines, but you should avoid such familiar drinks as champagne or the same cahors, which still have a lot of sugar. Table wines have almost no effect on blood glucose levels, but it should be remembered that the recommended dose of a single drink is 150-200 grams. And, by the way, red dry wines are good for the blood vessels of the brain. It can be taken as medicine, 50 grams a day.

But one should limit oneself in drinking beer, since it contains a rather large amount of easily digestible carbohydrates.

Little will be said about hard liquors: you can drink vodka, brandy, brandy or whiskey. Only up to 100 grams of these drinks may be drunk at one time.

The picture, you must agree, is quite bleak. In this case, of course, it is better to completely refuse to drink alcohol, so as not to tempt fate more than once and not to expose themselves to unnecessary danger. However, everyone makes his own choice.
